INTERNATIONAL UNION OF OPERATING
ENGINEERS LOCAL 112
Welcome:
Who
we are:
The International Union of
Operating Engineers Local 112 is the nation's newest
local. It was formed in 2006 from the International
Union of Operating Engineers oldest local (Local 2b). We
are over 1100 members strong and growing. Last year this
local had a growth rate more than 20 percent in
membership. This is the highest union growth rate in the
country at this time. We are not slowing down. We
are looking for new members to satisfy a booming demand for
personnel in the industries we serve. We train and
provide Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) personnel to contractors
seeking members to fill NDT inspector positions in the oil and
gas industry.

PRESERVE THE HISTORY OF LOCAL 2B AND 112
Please send in photos, stories, and other information regarding the history of Local 2b and 112. This information is forever lost if not recorded.
Below is a list of questions which need answered. This will give you an idea of the kind of information which would be interesting and would need to be preserved.
What is the date of creation of our local?
Who were the charter members?
What circumstances prompted these members to unionize?
Who were the first officers?
Why did they choose the affiliate with IUOE?
What have been the wages rates over the years?
What have been the benefits over the years?
What was the number of members by year?
what was the first project that our local manned?
Who have been the contractors over the years?
When did we first use UT?
Who have been the presidents of our local?
have any members been lost in the while performing their duty?
What has been the biggest project that we manned?
Why did we choose Anderson as our location?
As you can see, we need lots of information. This information will be of interest to others many years from now. If you have knowledge of things of interest or if you have pictures or copies of records, etc., please send these to Ronald Mosburg at the hall.

RECORD BREAKING TRAINING SEASON
2010 set records for number of students trained and number of courses offered during a training year........and it is not over yet. See the training section for list of courses completed in 2010
New courses!!! New Instructors!!! were offered during this season.
Ronald Mosburg created training manuals and curriculum for a new phased array course and a new TOFD (time of flight diffraction) course.
These courses will assist operators in obtaining positions in refineries and power plants in the future.
Gregory Hunter introduced training for AUT Pipewizard. This is the AUT system preferred by TISI. Local 112 has purchased a Pipewizard AUT system. This system joins the two GE Weldstar systems available for training.
Stephen McElhannon introduced training for AUT Shaw. Shaw Pipeline was awarded numerous contracts for ultrasonic inspection this year.
Steve has offered this course almost continuously since late in 2009.
RTD has placed one of their AUT systems in Anderson. Cary Richardson has been working with RTD to introduce RTD AUT training.
The placement of the RTD and Shaw systems allowed Local 112 to have 5 AUT systems available for training this year. Local 112 is the only place in the world where you could see 4 different AUT systems like this in one location.
There was a huge demand for Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant inspection training this year. Thank you to Erin Buck for instructing many of these courses this year in order to meet the huge demand.
In addition to managing union business, Jim Kelly offered numerous courses in radiography and radiation safety. Overall the training staff was very pleased with the services brought to the membership this year.
Digital Radiography Training Soon To Come
Ronald Mosburg has been developing training curriculum for Digital Radiography. This course will be offered during next training season.
The building which is designed to house the X-ray and Digital X-ray training program will be completed during the summer 2010.
There are two large classrooms, processing room, Computed Radiography room, storage, and shooting vault included in the new building.
See the photo section for pics of the progress of the new addition
